Other Animals who enrich our lives!
Dapper A.K.A. "DK," "Big kitty," "Fat Cat," and "Pepsi Cat" is our big guy. He weighs nearly 20 lbs and stands up to an adults knee when on all fours! Dapper is a big scaredy cat though. Afraid of visitors, loud noises, sudden movements, and just about everything else. He is a sweet kitty though and spends most of his time sleeping on the beds or eating. Dapper was our first cat, he is a domestic shorthair, and was acquired on a 4H field trip. I saw the kids playing with him all the time we were at the farm and he was so sweet and let them do anything to him, I decided to give him a home. I wasn't sure what Dan would think but when he got home and saw Dapper sleeping on the couch he fell in love. Dapper loves catnip, unlike Cara, and gets crazy on it. He begs for it sometimes too. He knows where it is and will sit at the base of the cabinet and meow until we give him some. Dapper will cuddle with both of us on occasion but only on his terms. His birthday is April 21. He will be four this year.

Caramel Swirl A.K.A. "Cara" or "the kitten" is a precious little girl. As you can see she is also a domestic shorthair cat. Cara came to us from the farm we bought George from. We hadn't planned to get a second cat but when Carol's cat had kittens they were just too sweet to pass up. I let Dan choose which one to take home and boy did he pick an awesome little kitty! She is my (Val's) personal lap cat. Cara will play with anything light enough to move. She will climb into anything large enough to fit her, and since she is very small that's just about anything. She is a superb mouser but she likes to torture the mice until their will is broken before killing them, sometimes she plays with them, alive mind you, for days. She hates catnip and any toys with catnip in them. She is an expert begger cat and always appears when we make anything in the kitchen or sit down with food or drink. She loves spicy foods and milk, hates fruit and sweets. She is always going to be our little kitten even now at 3 years old. Her birthday is March 8.

Princess is our newest and oldest cat. We just got her in 2007 but she was already 10 when we adopted her. Out of the blue I decided I wanted a long haired cat, and not just any long haired cat, a grey and white long haired cat. I started looking for a kitten. A few weeks into my search I came across a post on Craig's list. A woman was advertising her cats because she was moving into an apartment that didn't allow pets. One of those cats was Princess. The ad said that if they didn't find homes within a week they were going to the shelter. I know that for a ten year old cat the shelter is practically a death sentence. Princess being a grey and white medium haired cat was perfect so I contacted the woman right away and, only knowing her age, hair length, and color, picked up Princess a few days later. We were extremely lucky to get her because Princess is one of the sweetest, friendliest cats you could ever know. At least, with people. She does not like our other cats and they don't like her. They now will tolerate sleeping on the same bed or passing each other in a room most of the time. Sometimes Princess tries to run down Cara who is apparently her arch enemy, lol. We love her though and at least when she is chasing Cara she is getting exercise! Princess is Dan's cat, the only one that really likes spending time with him since he is more a dog person. Princess has lost weight since these photos and her coat is even nicer than it was to begin with. We unfortunately do not know Princess' birthday but we have decided to celebrate it on September 1, so in our eyes Princess is now 11 years old.

We can't forget our little indoor bunny Adorable commonly known as Dori!!! She is a black Dutch doe who is Dan's bunny. We unfortunately have no good pics of her to put up here so we will have to work on that. Dori is just over 2 years old. She is just a pet. We tried breeding her once but it didn't go well so we will never try again! Dori is a trouble maker. We originally got her with the hopes of having a house rabbit but she is too distructive to be let out on her own. I have had house rabbits in the past and none were so bent on distruction! With the way our house is laid out we can't just keep her in a small area so unless we are there to watch her like a hawk then she has to be locked up.

PC Mozart A.K.A. "George," "Porge," or "Porgie" is our gorgeous blood bay Arabian gelding. He is just 14.2 hands but he acts big, lol. He is a total mush and has great ground manners most of the time. He is a bit of a handful to ride. Very spooky, but not because he is scared, he does it for fun. George came to us from Journey's End Arabians. I met him in September of 2004 and fell in love immediately. At the time he had rain rot and was not ridable but I really didn't care. After just a month I put down a deposit to purchase "George." Carol, his previous owner, and I cleared up his skin problem later that fall. That winter I was riding him and realized maybe he was a little too much horse for me but I was in love and still determined to buy him. Porgie stayed at Carol's farm until we bought our new house and moved him into our backyard. We love having him here so we can see him all of the time! When we first brought him here he was kept company by a boarded horse named Miracles. Unfortunately the following spring Miracles was sold and moved. We then bought Cain and Abel, our nubian goats, to keep him company. George is very loved and gets lots of treats. He is scared to be in the barn whenever there is noise outside, rain, wind, etc... so he wears a blanket throughout the cold months to keep him dry and warm. George is 9 and his birthday is January 20.

Cain A.K.A "dummer" is our mischief goat. He is a nubian castrated male. Cain is always getting into things and annoying everyone around him. Sometimes you will look out to the paddock and see George and Abel just hanging out and there's Cain, pulling George's tail or blanket, or pawing at him. Or my personal least favorite, eating trees. He has ruined our apple trees and is working on chewing all the bark off of the maple in the paddock. He isn't alone on the maple though, all 3 of them do that. Cain has been a handful right from the start. To read the story of when the goats came home click here. Cain is nearly 2, his birthday is February 23.

Abel A.K.A "dumb" is our quiet goat. He is a nubian castrated male as well. Abel is a relaxed and calm goat. He is more dominant than Cain. He is also much closer to George. They hang out a lot. Abel really isn't much to talk about since he just stays out of trouble and keeps to himself. Abel has a white small spot on his right side. We really need to take some new pics of Abel since this one from when they first got here is the only good one we have of him. The only time Abel ever got into trouble was when we first brought him home. To read the story of when the goats came home click here. Abel is also nearly 2 and shares Cain's birthday of February 23.

These are our new flock of chickens! There are 8 chicks and we are praying that they will all be hens. We know for cetain that 4 of them are but the other 4 are anybody's guess! Clockwise they are two barred rocks, 2 golden comet hens, two black-sexlink hens, 1 brown Ameraucana, and 1 black Ameraucana. Or at least we are pretty sure through process of elimination that the last two are our Ameraucana chicks. We got the chicks on May 16, 2008. We are hoping they all make it to adulthood!

We have names for two of the chicks so far. The golden comet chick on the right side in the pic is Hailey. The black Ameraucana chick is Raven.
